Biography

Peter Hacker holds an Economics Degree from the University of Applied Sciences Zurich, a dual MBA Degree from both London Business School (Distinction) and Columbia Business School (Honors).

Prior to co-founding Distinction.Global in 2015, previously a unit within the Cologne based Cyber Crime Research Institute, an independent Cyber Crime Observatory, Peter run JLT’s and Swiss Re’s Global CTM Practices, was EdBroking’s Chief Innovation Officer. His global track record is built in Technology, Cyber Security, (Re)insurance and Structured Finance.

The focus of his career and work has been for many years at top management level with secondments to Zurich, London, New York, Sao Paulo, Sydney and Singapore.

Across his highly successful career in risk and insurance he covered European, Asian, North American and Latin Markets across all non-life lines of business and developed a distinct understanding of a truly global industry. He created and managed teams from different cultural backgrounds. He built a strong and diverse personal network across the industry and became a recognized industry expert and leader. Peter is multilingual (E, F, G, P, Sp) and engaged frequently globally as cyber and risk expert.

Currently he is Director of Distinction.Global, a privately hold and independent think-tank with a focus on the Financial Services and Technology Industry as well as advising a number of direct and reinsurance companies in the field silent cyber. His main work and research is on using manual and machine learning capabilities (including threat and clauses intelligence) to amplify the continuum of contract, exposure assessment and reinsurance placements. Such AI driven solutions allow Boards not just better capture Risk Management, Legal, Underwriting and Product requirements, but importantly, provide Actionable Intelligence towards Shareholders, Regulators and Rating Agencies

The cyber market practice is still very young and handling a multitude of uncertainties as maybe in the natural catastrophe modelling scene 25 years ago. At the same token, unparalleled change in the cyber threat landscape is dynamically challenging early cyber modelling achievements. Peter has been on the forefront of such challenges, the development of cyber (re)insurance policies and portfolio modeling capabilities.
